Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins denies requesting trade from the team – NFL News
Even though cornerback Mike Jenkins was reportedly disappointed when the team added two players at his position during the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys defenseman maintains that he never asked for his trade from the team.
On the first day of training camp practices on Monday, July 30, 2012, Jenkins told reporters that he never sought trade.
This seems an interesting development, as throughout the offseason Jenkins remained in the limelight for a number of reasons focusing around his job security.
After the arrival of Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne, Jenkins thought that his future with the team was in jeopardy and many reports emerged that the player had asked to be traded so as to start a new tenure with another team.
Cowboys also received offer from different teams interested in Jenkins’ trade, but the management was not up for trading him. Now Jenkins has made it clear that he never sought the trade. He said:
“Y'all haven't gotten any quotes out of me yet. As long as it hasn't come from my mouth, I don't understand how a lot of people come up with a lot of things. But that's not my job. My focus right now is to get better and to help the team out."
It is not sure how the Cowboys will accommodate four cornerbacks at the same time. They might use rotation policy to extract the best out of every player. Whatever the case is, Jenkins is ready to dedicate his entire focus on the game.
He said:
"I am here with the Cowboys. I am a part of this organization. I am just going to start focusing with that. I don't care whatever everybody else says. I just care about this organization because this is where I am at.”
Jenkins’ positive attitude must be encouraging for the team management, particularly head coach Jason Garrett, who had earlier hoped that the player would attend the team’s sessions so as to prepare well for the 2012 season.
Meanwhile, Jenkins has not been able to take the field actively as he is still recovering from a shoulder injury. The Cowboys are hoping for his availability in preseason.
