Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins hoping to return for game against New York Giants – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins is expected to miss the entire preseason as he recovers from a shoulder injury and the player has hoped to return to the field for the 2012 season opener against the New York Giants on September 05.
Jenkins has nursed his shoulder injury throughout the offseason without participating in active drills. Although he seems physically fit, his shoulder lacks the desired strength.
He recently left Cowboys training camp to visit his doctor and the reports emerging on his return are not very pleasing.
However, it looks as if the Cowboys were already aware of the fact that the cornerback might not be able to play the preseason games. Both, the player and the team management, are hoping for his availability at the start of the season.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Jenkins has said that he is eyeing the season opener to return to action, but the player is not sure if he will be able to make it. He said:
“That's what we're looking at, but I don't know. I'm not quite sure. Once I go back for my final clearances (I'll know).”
Meanwhile, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has also admitted that the management was aware of the player’s injury status. While hoping for Jenkins’ early recovery, he said:
“I don't think we had any anticipation that he was going to be cleared to practice. It was almost a check-up to see what his next timetable is ... Again, players heal differently, and we're hopeful that as he goes through this process, that can be speeded
up and he's feeling better.”
Jenkins has remained in the limelight throughout the offseason over his reported disputes with the team management. Jenkins is into last year of his current contract and the management has not extended it. Moreover, the Cowboys also have three more cornerbacks
on the roster which is a direct threat to Jenkins’ future.
Cowboys are expected to adopt a rotation policy in their defensive scheme in the upcoming season as they plan on utilising all the cornerbacks. However, Jenkins’ injury might not help his cause of impressing the management by performing well and trying to
get a chance to win another contract from Cowboys.
