Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne sidelined with ankle injury – NFL News
It took a considerable amount of time for Dallas Cowboys rookie cornerback Morris Claiborne to take the practice field as he was suffering with an injury before being drafted, but now it looks like he will have to wait a while again before stepping on the
field.
As per the latest development, Claiborne, the Cowboys first-round pick in this year’s draft, injured his ankle during a recent practice session.
According to the coaches, it is a very minor injury, but the player has been sidelined as a precautionary measure.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said of the player’s injury:
“Our trainers really thought he had a little twinge there in his knee, and our trainers thought it would be best to give him the afternoon off. We, at this time, aren’t concerned.”
When the Cowboys drafted Claiborne, the player was already dealing with an injury that prevented him from staying active during the offseason and organised team activities (OTAs).
He finally recovered from the injury, but another setback can seriously hurt his professional career. That is why the Cowboys are adopting a cautious approach towards Claiborne’s recent injury.
Head coach Jason Garrett informed that the player tired to train, but the management wanted the rookie to take rest. He said:
“He got treatment on it yesterday. His knee flared up a little bit on him. He tried to go today in the early part of practice. We took him out of it.”
It is essential for the Cowboys that Claiborne stays fit throughout the season. They made some surprising moves during this year’s draft to select the rookie.
The Cowboys are reportedly going to come in the 2012 season with a new defensive strategy in which the role of cornerbacks will be important. They see Claiborne as important part of their strategy and that is why the rookie must also keep himself fit before
and throughout the season.
Meanwhile, some other players were also unable to practice on Friday. Apart from Claiborne, defensive end Tyrone Crawford and outside linebacker Anthony Spencer also missed the practice. Spencer might not be able to attend Saturday’s practice as well.
