Dallas Cowboys’ defensive back Orlando Scandrick not up for changing position – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys’ defensive back, Orlando Scandrick, has denied playing at the position of safety in the upcoming National Football League (NFL) season, saying that the team officials have also not asked him to change his position.
Talking to ESPNDallas.com, Scandrick, who has been playing with the Cowboys since last four years after starting his professional career in 2008, said that he wants to play at cornerback position in the next season.
Scandrick has been an active member of the squad in all games, but he has received relatively less playing time as he has not gained the status of the regular starter yet.
Although there is no official confirmation of the matter about changing his position, different reports have suggested that the Cowboys might have to make a few adjustments to their squad in the 2012 season.
Scandrick might start the season with three more cornerbacks on the roster and if it happens he might not get more playing time.
However, if he changes the position he could also get the starting role, but playing time is not Scandrick’s concern at the moment.
While admitting that that it could get difficult to accommodate four cornerbacks, he maintained that he knew nothing if the team was planning to change the position of any of the four cornerbacks.
He said:
“I have no idea what they have planned. I feel like the best players are going to play regardless of your contract, draft status or who you are.”
On the other hand, the remarks from Cowboys’ new secondary coach, Jerome Henderson, imply that such a move might be in the offing.
However, he did not clearly mention that the management would be changing Scandrick’s position.
That being said, Henderson mentioned that the team would come up with a different strategy that would be unpredictable. He said:
"All those players, we'd like to use them interchangeably and be versatile. And the offense can't predict what they get. We'd like to create a certain level of uncertainty week to week as far as how are they're going to match us up this week, how are they
going to attack us this week. So it's not always us waiting for them. We also get a little say in how we match up with them."
