Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan hopeful of good performance against Carolina Panthers
Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has set high expectations from the defence against Carolina Panthers, saying that the defensive line has a lot of talented players who can lead the team to victories.
Cowboys (2-3) are going to play Panthers this Sunday. Panthers are 1-4 and coming off their bye. After losing their season opener against Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Panthers won the next game against New Orleans Saints.
However, they are currently on a three-game losing streak with the recent defeats coming against New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks.
Panthers offence has struggled badly this season and their quarterback Cam Newton, who was brilliant last year, has so far failed to live up to the expectations.
Panthers are under a lot of pressure and this can help Cowboys against them. Although Cowboys are also under pressure as they are placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East, they still have some chances against Panthers, who are placed
at the bottom of NFC South along with Saints.
According to the details present on Cowboys’ website, Ryan has said that his defence has a great technique and that it will stop Newton from creating scoring opportunities. Ryan said:
“You’ve got to be smart. Obviously, when you’re pressuring the quarterback, you want it to be a pass. We’re not a big run-blitz team like some people are. We play with great technique, and we’re going to prove it this week.”
Meanwhile, Ryan has said that he will monitor performance of cornerback Morris Claiborne this week. The rookie is dealing with a knee injury, but might be able to play against Panthers. However, Claiborne might not be able to play the entire game.
In Claiborne’s absence, Cowboys can introduce Mike Jenkins on the field. Ryan said of playing Jenkins:
“That’s a possibility, but obviously the kid’s (Claiborne) really getting good. He’s getting better each week, and it’s hard to want to take him off the field when you see his improvement.”
Furthermore, Ryan has also said that if linebacker Anthony Spencer plays against Panthers it will be a great support to the team. Ryan said:
“When Spencer gets back, we’ve got our pass rush and front and people better duck.”
