Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Rob Ryan optimistic about next season – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan, has expressed optimism about his team’s performance in the next National Football League (NFL) season while saying that he is excited about it.
Cowboys’ defence finished 14th last season and failure on defence during many games was one of the key reasons which forced the Cowboys out of the competition.
Cowboys were not even able to qualify for the playoffs despite gaining lead in the National Football Conference (NFC) East division a couple of times.
As the Cowboys prepare to forget last season’s loss and turn their attention towards the next season, Ryan has also set some goals for his defensive line.
According to ESPN, Ryan said on the first day of Cowboys’ three-day minicamp for rookies:
"When we look back at ourselves and re-evaluate, I think I started a little too fast and put in the accelerated program without the English 101, which I always struggled with.”
He added:
“So we are excited about this. We've got players. We've always had players. I think we need to take the time to re-teach everything, to get our fundamentals here."
Soon after the end of the last season, Cowboys sought depth in their roster. They added a few players from the free agency market and then later explored all the possible options to ensure selection of best prospects during this year’s draft.
Ryan, too, had set a few goals for himself. One of them was to lose weight.
During the offseason, he underwent a lap-band procedure and lost almost 35 pounds. It was something that his doctors had advised for his good health.
After achieving the goals he had set for himself, Ryan has now set some for his defensive line and he thinks that the players will certainly live up to the expectations.
He said:
"I know one thing, when you really add some excellent players like we've done, it makes my job a h**l of a lot easier, and we are looking forward to it.”
Ryan added:
“We are going to be d**n good."
Cowboys will play first game of the 2012 season against the NFC East division rivals, the New York Giants, who are the defending Super Bowl champions.
