Dallas Cowboys get overtime win against Cleveland Browns 23-20 – NFL Week 11 Recap
A solid show on offence and defence from the Cleveland Browns could not continue for long as the Dallas Cowboys, after going down early in Week 11 game, managed to win it in overtime 23-20 on Sunday, November 18, at Cowboys Stadium.
The Browns entered the game as underdogs, but since the Cowboys have given inconsistent performances throughout the season, it had been expected that the hosts could get a tough time.
It happened as expected as the Browns were leading 13-0 by halftime. Still, the Cowboys managed to dominate the visitors in the second half and eventually secured a victory in overtime.
According to the details present on Cowboys’ website, head coach Jason Garrett said of the win:
“A Hall of Fame pitcher told me a long time ago, you’ve got to somehow win a game when you don’t necessarily have your best stuff. I don’t think we had our best stuff today, but we found a way.”
The victory further strengthened Cowboys’ position in National Football Conference (NFC) East. They are still at second spot in the division with five wins and five defeats but now they are just one win behind the division leaders and defending Super Bowl
champions New York Giants. It is also for the first time this season that the Cowboys have won two games in a row.
However, the victory was never easy for them. The Browns started the game well and got a touchdown in the first quarter, followed by two field goals in the second quarter.
Cowboys initiated their comeback in the third quarter in which they scored a field goal while the Browns could not manage even a single scoring move.
In the fourth quarter, Cowboys got two touchdowns and took the lead. However, the Browns took back that advantage by scoring a touchdown. With a couple of seconds left in the regulation, Cowboys got a field goal that tied the game and forced it to overtime.
In overtime, Cowboys got a field goal and eventually got the win.
Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden was 20 of 35 for 210 yards and got two touchdowns. He was sacked two times for the loss of 18 yards.
On the other hand, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo had a very tough day and he did remarkably well to deal with pressure.
Romo was sacked a massive seven times for the loss of total 56 yards. The sacks, however, did not slow him down and he finished the game completing 35 of his 50 passes for 313 yards and a touchdown.
Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said after the game:
“We felt like, if we had any chance of affecting the outcome of the game, especially getting after Romo, we had to put pressure on him. I thought, at times in the game, and really throughout the game, we were able to get home and I think that’s very important
for us moving forward.”
Browns are now going to face Pittsburgh Steelers while the Cowboys will take on Washington Redskins.
