Dallas Cowboys going to monitor tight end Jason Witten – NFL News
Although Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten was able to play the 2012 season opener against New York Giants despite doubts on his participation, the team is still going to monitor him on the practice field as Cowboys prepare to face Seattle Seahawks in
Week 2 game.
Witten got injured during the Cowboys first preseason game against Oakland Raiders last month and missed the next three preseason games as well as all the practice and training sessions.
However, he still managed to play against the Giants, trying to prove that the interest of the team is far more important to him than his personal condition.
Witten spent limited time on the field against the Giants and now it is hoped that he would be able to get more playing time as the season progresses.
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett appreciates Witten’s determination to support his team, but he also wants to adopt a relatively cautious approach with the player and that is why he is going to monitor the tight end during the practice field before the game
against Seahawks.
According to the details present of the team’s website, Garrett explained the reasons for monitoring the player by saying:
“We have to see how he feels. We anticipate him being able to practice today and go forward, but again we have to keep checking in with him. He has to communicate with us. It’s hard for us to tell if he’s doing OK, he just has to, again, communicate that
with us, and we’ll make the necessary adjustments.”
Against Giants, Witten only gained 10 yards while catching two passes, but his presence was lauded by Garrett, who considered that game one of the most memorable events of the time he was around the tight end. The head coach commended Witten the next day
after the game and said:
“Just for all the different circumstances and his approach to it and his determination and a willing to be a part of it.”
The Cowboys are going to face Seahawks this Sunday and it is also expected that Witten might not practise during the full-contact session on Wednesday.
