Dallas Cowboys have faith in quarterback Tony Romo – NFL News
At this time of the year when every other team of the National Football League (NFL) is talking about the performance of the prospective players, especially quarterbacks, in the NFL Scouting Combine, Dallas Cowboys have expressed complete faith in their
starting quarterback, Tony Romo.
Cowboys’ owner/general manager, Jerry Jones, and vice president, Stephen Jones, have clearly stated that Romo is going to be with the Cowboys for a very long time.
When asked about acquiring either of the two top draft prospects, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, Jerry Jones said that he would never trade for them.
He commented:
"I'm not interested in going out here and starting with a rookie quarterback, or doing anything that might be better for us three or four years from now, with any proven player that we've got.”
Jones added:
“Can you imagine trading out of a h**l of a player right now so that you could get two or three outstanding draft picks so you could be in this draft? I wouldn't do that."
Romo, who is with the Cowboys since 2003, has been playing as the starting quarterback for around five seasons.
This past season was one of his best. In the 16 games of the regular season, he completed 346 passes of 522 attempts for 4,184 yards while throwing 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He received a passer rating of 102.5.
Despite leading the team on many occasions, Romo could not lead the Cowboys into the playoffs and the team ended up winning eight games, falling just one game behind the National Football Conference (NFC) East division leaders, New York Giants.
Not only Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones, Cowboys’ head coach, Jason Garrett, is also an admirer of Romo.
The head coach also expressed confidence in Romo and backed him to repeat the heroics next year as well.
He said:
"Our quarterback played awfully well this year; he had probably his best year of his career. So there's a comfort level that we want to make sure that we maintain in that area.”
Now that Romo has been confirmed to start for the Cowboys for one or more seasons, the franchise should work on improving the defence as it was one of the primary reasons for their failure in the season.
