Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett appreciates quarterback Tony Romo – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has appreciated quarterback Tony Romo for his improved performance in the last couple of games, during which the player controlled the ball effectively.
Before these two games, Romo’s performance had been very disappointing while the Cowboys’ playoff hopes were also very dull.
Thanks to Cowboys’ recent victory over National Football Conference (NFC) East rivals Philadelphia Eagles, they were able to save the season and Romo’s performance helped the team’s cause to a great extent.
Before the game against Eagles, Cowboys faced a defeat against Atlanta Falcons, but Romo was impressive in that game as well. Against Falcons, the quarterback completed 25 of his 35 passes for 321 yards and got a touchdown without throwing any interception.
Against Eagles, Romo was 19 of 26 for 209 yards and two touchdowns, without turning over the ball.
This is something that the Cowboys desperately needed to see. They wanted, and still need, Romo to avoid turnovers and be his natural self.
Romo has also been playing well right after the snaps and he really reads the play well when he is in the pocket. According to the details present on the team’s website, Garrett has appreciated Romo’s instincts, saying:
“He’s worked very hard at making sure in all of his movements that the ball is up here (by his chest) and it’s in his cylinder and just strong instead of away from his body. The amazing thing with him is that he feels so much and he can see so much while
all this stuff is going on. Having played the position, I know what a melee this thing feels like. He just has this great poise about him as an athlete. It’s pretty unique.”
In nine games this season, Romo has completed a total of 230 passes of 344 attempts for 2,603 yards. He has scored 12 passing touchdowns while giving away 13 interceptions.
Cowboys were able to save the season by defeating Eagles, but there is no guarantee that they will qualify for the playoffs. Romo must main his rhythm and remain consistent if Cowboys want to make the postseason.
