Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett backs RB DeMarco Murray – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys are struggling at the start of the season and when a team is unable to perform well it naturally comes in the line of fire.
Whether it is offence, defence or any other department, the blame is given to everyone because results are not coming the right way.
Quarterback Tony Romo has also been criticised a number of times for his inconsistent performance, but now the attention is shifted towards the lacklustre performance of running back DeMarco Murray, who started off the season on a positive note, but could
not play well after the season opener.
However, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is hopeful that the running back will find his rhythm back and support the offence.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Garrett said of Murray:
“I think he does a really good job. He’s done a good job just being persistent throughout the ballgame and trying to continue to be true to the runs and trying to find the hole that’s there.”
In the season opener against New York Giants, Murray got the ball 20 times and gained 131 yards. In Week 2 game against Seattle Seahawks, he got the ball 12 times and managed to gain only 44 yards. In Week 3 game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he gained 38
yards while carrying the ball 18 times, and in Week 4 game against Chicago Bears, the running back rushed for 24 yards on 11 attempts.
The continuous decline in yards gained is a worrisome sign for the Cowboys, who have also not given him the ball consistently as he is regressing.
Garrett said of reduction in number of opportunities for Murray:
“Teams have done a good job trying to move around up front. Sometimes the run isn’t always as clean as you want it to be. He’s been a running back for a long, long time, and he understands that.”
Meanwhile, the head coach praised Murray and said that the running back has all the qualities to become a better player:
“His patience, his persistence, his toughness have all been good. He just needs to understand we’re going to keep trying to give him opportunities.”
