Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett comments on Kevin Ogletree’s prospects as third receiver
Wide receiver, Kevin Ogletree, has spent three seasons in Dallas while waiting for an opportunity to become an active and regular member of Cowboys’ squad, but he remained unsuccessful.
Now that Cowboys have once again brought him back on a one-year deal during the offseason, there are chances that he might become an active member of the squad in the upcoming National Football League (NFL) season.
At the moment, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are serving as wide receivers and the Cowboys are looking for a third-string wide receiver after the departure of Laurent Robinson, who has now joined Jacksonville Jaguars.
Earlier, Cowboys’ head coach, Jason Garrett, also said that the Cowboys were looking for the third receiver and hoped that he would find a player from the players selected during 2012 NFL draft and after it.
Ogletree is the other option who could be considered for the position. In 2009, he appeared in only 11 games while playing his rookie season and did not get enough playing time.
In 2010, his role was further limited as he only appeared in six games. Last year, he playing 14 games and started only one. He gained 164 receiving yards on 15 receptions.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, when Garrett was asked about considering Ogletree as the third receiver, the head coach commented:
"He is not entrenched as our third receiver by any means. He's the guy who's been around our program the longest. He's the guy who has the most production and experience in NFL games, so you would say that he has the advantage going in, but it will be competitive."
On the other hand, Cowboys’ receivers coach, Jimmy Robinson, has also hoped that he would find a right guy for the position.
He did not mention the name of any player and said that he would monitor performances of different players during training camp and preseason games before making a final call.
He commented:
"I'm hopeful that we have that guy here now. But time will tell. We won't know that for a while. We won't know that really until training camp, you have preseason games, and we'll just see how it goes."
