Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett gets support from players – NFL News
Soon after finishing the season at 8-8, and failing to qualify for the playoffs yet another time, the Dallas Cowboys’ players have come forward to defend their coach Jason Garrett, saying the coach did a great job this season.
The Cowboys struggled to maintain consistency in the first half of the season and could not even win two straight games. After eight games, they were 3-5 and many critics started predicting that the coach would be fired.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones rubbished the impression that there was a threat to Garrett’s job and the confidence allowed the head coach to properly focus on his job.
The second half of the season was relatively better for the Cowboys, but for the last two defeats that eventually eliminated them from the playoff contention.
In the last eight games, the Cowboys secured five wins. They played a do-or-die game against the Washington Redskins in Week 17 and could not win it.
Now as they have finished the season 8-8, the players have backed the coach and has not allowed anyone to put blame of the team’s failure only on the head coach.
According to the details present on Cowboys’ website, running back DeMarco Murray said of Garrett:
“I think he did a great job. He’s a great coach, terrific guy, glad to be a part of this team and I’m 100 percent behind him, as well as everyone else in this locker room. I wouldn’t want to play for anyone else, and I’m definitely happy he was our coach
and he led us the right way this year.”
Linebacker Sean Lee, whose injury forced him out of the season, has also echoed the same sentiments. Lee said of Garrett:
“I think he’s an unbelievable coach. I think we’ve responded to him, and he’s made us better football players, better people.”
It is good to see the players getting behind the coach, but there is no guarantee that this will save his job if the owner decides to fire him. However, there are reports if Jones is planning on dismissing Garrett. The developments during the next few weeks
will further clear the uncertainty.
