Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey learning from experiences – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey has only played one National Football League (NFL) season, but it was more than enough to make him understand the competitive and demanding nature of the game.
In his first year, he experienced something that would keep him on track throughout his professional career and the player also acknowledges it.
After making a negative start to the last season, the Cowboys took a trip to play against the San Francisco 49ers, their old rivals.
The game was played in a pretty competitive environment with both teams trying hard to get scoring moves.
The Cowboys did get an opportunity when they set up a field goal from 21 yards, but Bailey unexpectedly missed that kick.
The game went on but Bailey could not help thinking about the missed attempt throughout the time he spent on the sidelines watching both teams registering scoring moves.
As the game progressed, the Cowboys got another opportunity to score a field goal towards the end of the fourth quarter.
They were trailing by three points and a field goal was required to tie the score. Bailey was up again, and this time he did not miss. His field goal forced the game to overtime during which the Cowboys set up another field goal and Bailey again was up to
the expectations.
He led the team to an impressive win and earned the due praise.
In the midst of all the praise he had, however, learnt a valuable lesson. According to the details present on the team’s official website, Bailey has learnt a lot about the NFL life from that just one game. He said:
"That was definitely a rollercoaster game for myself. For me, a missed kick like that is pretty much the low of the low, and then having a kick to tie the game and send it to overtime is pretty much the most pressure you can have as a kicker. I had them
both in one game.”
He added:
“It was good to know how both felt. I wouldn't necessarily want it to happen again, but I learned a lot in that game. I think it helped me mentally prepare later on last season, and then obviously for the rest of my career.”
