Dallas Cowboys look to sign Sammy Morris after Murray’s injury – NFL News
After an ankle injury, which is likely to end the season for Dallas Cowboys’ rookie running back DeMarco Murray, the team management is contemplating to sign veteran Sammy Morris as a backup for the week-15 game against Tampa Bay
Buccaneers.
Morris, a free agent at the moment, has an 11-year experience of playing professional football. He started his career back in the year 2000 with Buffalo Bills. After playing four seasons with the Bills, he moved to Miami Dolphins
and spent three years there. In 2007, he joined New England Patriots and stayed with them for four years.
He is expected to sign a deal with the Cowboys on Tuesday. In the absence of Murray, the management will play Felix Jones as starter and reserve Morris as a backup.
During the Sunday’s game against New York Giants, Murray left the field after sustaining an injury in the first quarter. Felix Jones replaced him and finished the game for the Cowboys. Murray’s injury came as a serious blow for
the team, which is tied for first place in the National Football Conference East division with the Giants.
“DeMarco has been a big part of this offense and big part of this football team," quarterback Tony Romo said after Murray’s injury. "We are lucky to have a guy like Felix, obviously, who can step in."
Jones is a regular starter for the Cowboys, but his injury allowed Murray to become a starter. The rookie impressed by managing 897 rushing yards with an average of 5.5 yards per receive. However, his injury and Jones recovery
has allowed the latter to become the starter again.
Felix has started five out of nine games he played this season, managing 90 receives for 413 yards. He also has a touchdown to his credit.  He, like Romo, also praised the rookie and hoped for his early recovery.
"First of all, all my prayers go out to DeMarco," Jones said. "He's a hard-nosed runner, a hard, tough runner, a great player, a great asset for the team. It's just unfortunate. I hope he gets well soon."
Cowboys have three games left in the regular season. They will take on Tampa Bay this weekend. There last two games are scheduled against Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants respectively.
