Dallas Cowboys look to win third straight game under new coach
The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to extend their win streak to three games under interim head coach Jason Garrett when they host the New Orleans Saints on Thanksgiving Thursday 25 November.
Previous meetings and recent games
The New Orleans Saints were en route to a perfect season before they were beaten 24-17 by the Dallas Cowboys on week 15 of last year. The Saints would go on to lose the two following weeks before heading
into the play-offs. They obviously felt no real adverse effects from the three-game losing streak which the Cowboys had started, as they went on to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history.
The Saints are not perfect this year, but they are having a great season and are still among the NFL's elite. They play in the hotly contested NFC South which is the only division in the NFL with three
teams with better than .500 records. The Saints are currently riding a three-game winning streak and most recently beat the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 34-19.
Since firing Wade Phillips as their head coach, the Cowboys are 2-0. It's tough to call them real contenders with a record of 3-7, but they haven't been mathematically eliminated yet so there's still a
faint glimmer of hope. The Cowboys are most recently coming off a 35-19 win over the Detroit Lions.
How they match up
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is still out with an injury which means 38-year-old John Kitna will once again get the start at quarterback for Dallas. Although he's a seasoned veteran, the clear edge at
quaterback belongs to the Saints as Drew Brees is having another banner year. Brees has become Mr. Consistency and has thrown for over 250 yards in every game this season save for the season opener, and has not once this season completed less than 60-percent
of his passes. When you can count on production like that from your quarterback you feel pretty good about your chances in any game.
If the Saints have a failing it is their run game which is ranked 26th in the NFL. If you can believe it, one of the six teams beneath them is the Dallas Cowboys who are ranked 29th.
If the Cowboys have an ace in the hole it's their rookie receiver Dez Bryant who has become known as a human highlight reel. Although he doesn't lead his team in receptions or yards, he is the team leader
in touchdowns, and has scored a touchdown in each of his last three games.
Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware is also among the NFL's leaders when it comes to sacks with 8.5 this season, but Brees has been sacked a mere 13 times this season.
What to expect
Despite the fact that they might be riding high with confidence now that they've begun to win a couple of games, the Saints should be able to jolt the Cowboys off of cloud nine. The Saints also possess
by far the better pass defence as most of the game should be played through the air.
Saints will win 24-20.
