Dallas Cowboys lose two defensive linemen for four to six weeks
The Dallas Cowboys are already without starting quarterback, Tony Romo, they’ve fired their coach, have a 1-7 record, and an ailing defensive line. Now they’ve lost two more defensive linemen to leg injuries.
Marcus Spears and Sean Lissemore are both expected to miss four to six weeks with leg injuries.
Spears tore a calf muscle Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers in a 45-7 loss. He had started in seven of the Cowboys’ eight games so far this season, and has 19 tackles so far this year.
Lissemore is a rookie who appeared in his first NFL game on 31 October, a 35-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had three tackles in that game and half a sack. Lissemore played on Sunday against the
Packers in his second NFL game, and during the game he sustained a high ankle sprain.
The loss of two more defensive linemen will does not help the struggling team. They’re already missing Jason Hatcher for at least two more games with a strained groin, and will enter their game Sunday
against the New York Giants with only four healthy linemen. One of those linemen, Jeremy Clark, signed with the team on Tuesday.
So far this season the Cowboys have been one of the worst teams in the NFL. They’re ranked 24th in the league in run defence and 14th against the pass, and the loss of Lissemore and
Spears will surely cause those rankings to drop. Sunday they face the third best rushing team in the NFL in the Giants.
What started out as a difficult season for the Cowboys is quickly turning into one of the worst seasons in franchise history. Their coach, Wade Phillips, was fired earlier this week. It was the first time
the franchise has ever fired a coach mid-season.
