Dallas Cowboys management backs Wade Phillips
Dallas Cowboys executive vice president, Stephen Jones, has stated that despite the Cowboys poor start to the season, head coach Wade Phillips' job is absolutely safe.
"I think in our organization everybody is taking responsibility, not just Wade," Jones said. "He does. He takes responsibility. The coaching staff takes responsibility. The players take it. We all take it."
"We're a team, we're an organization, and when we fall short, we accept it as a team."
Phillips has had a rocky road in Dallas since taking the head coaching job in 2007. He helped guide the Cowboys to division titles in his first and third year in charge, but the Cowboys failed to make the play-offs in 2008, and their 1-3 start this season
has some people suggesting it might be time for a change.
Cowboys owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, reiterated his son's stance on Phillips by saying, "...with Wade ... I'm very comfortable that we can do better."
The Cowboys started the season with two losses, away to the Washington Redskins and at home to the Chicago Bears, before winning the battle of Texas away to the Houston Texans. They lost last weekend after their bye week to Tennessee and are now preparing
to take on another 1-3 team, the Minnesota Vikings, this Sunday, October 17.
Despite their record, it seems that the Cowboys organization believes they have the tools to turn things around and get back on the winning track.
"Even if we were winning, we've got a lot of things that can make us a better team that are encouraging," Jerry Jones told the NFL Network's Albert Breer at the owners' meetings. "Since we haven't been [winning], we've really got a lot of things we can address.
There's not just one thing, but we are obviously making mistakes. But those are things that are correctable."
