Dallas Cowboys optimistic about Phil Costa – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has expressed optimism about centre Phil Costa’s participation in Week 8 game against defending champions New York Giants.
Costa was badly injured during Week 7 game against Carolina Panthers. He left the field in the middle of the game and did not return.
Initially it was expected that the player would be out for a long time as the injury looked severe, but now Cowboys’ optimism reflects that the player might be able to return early. However, the Cowboys have not said with absolute certainty that Costa will
play the game against Giants.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Garrett said:
“We are more optimistic about Costa now than we were (Sunday). When that injury happened during the game everybody was concerned as he was being carted off. I didn’t get a great look at what happened. But it didn’t look good. Sure enough by the end of the
night last night and by today we are a little more optimistic. It’s a significant injury. We are not saying anything but that.”
Even though Garrett is optimistic, many media reports have indicated that the player will not only miss the game against Giants, but a few more after that.
This will be a huge setback for the Cowboys as they will need all weapons against the Giants, who are currently leading National Football Conference (NFC) East.
There already are a few players who are injured and out of the side for the time being. One of them is linebacker Sean Lee, who is suffering from a toe injury.
Garrett informed that the player would have an MRI on Monday and its results would help the team in determining the player’s status for the next game.
Furthermore, Cowboys also have an injured player in running back DeMarco Murray. He missed the last game that Cowboys played against Carolina Panthers. In his absence, the Cowboys’ running game was not able to provide big plays and the average was also below
par.
It is not sure if the running back will take part in the game against Giants. The status of many players is expected to become clear within the next few days.
