Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones: We have to be tougher and better – NFL News
The Dallas Cowboys made the headlines throughout the offseason for a number of reasons that were primarily based on the comments of their owner and general manager Jerry Jones, who had said that the Super Bowl window was closing on the Cowboys.
Many players and critics shared their views on the remarks while the Cowboys record was also discussed time and again.
However, some took the remarks negatively and thought that the owner was disappointed in the team. That is not the case, not for Jones at least.
He has clarified his stance saying that all those comments were “offseason talk” and the owner has now urged the team to be tougher and better.
As the Cowboys start training camp, the owner wants the players and officials to focus on the 2012 season. During the owner's annual "State of the Cowboys" address, Jones said:
"I want to officially close the window to closing the window. That was offseason talk. I do feel a sense of urgency, though. But more in the framework of we're nearer when we open up against the Giants. We've got to do better, we've got to be tougher."
The Cowboys played their last game of the 2011 season against the Giants, who eliminated them. They will start this season’s campaign with a game against the same opponent and are hoping for a different result this time.
Meanwhile, Jones attended a press conference to mark the start of their training camp and spoke on the case of Dez Bryant, who was recently charged for assaulting his mother.
Jones said that he had not spoken to Bryant, but maintained that he was well aware of the situation. The owner said that he was gathering more information around the incident. According to the details present on the team’s official website, he said:
“I’m in the process for our team of getting information, of looking at what the situation is. It isn’t a deliberate thing. I just haven’t sat down and talked with him. I want to have more information.”
While supporting the player, Jones maintained that it is necessary to avoid controversies. He said:
“We know, and he knows that we know, that controversy is not good for the Cowboys.”
