Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones backs Tony Romo – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is certainly one of the best players the franchise has ever had and even though the player has not been able to take Cowboys to Super Bowl, his overall performance deserves praise.
Cowboys’ owner and general manager Jerry Jones, who is desperate to win the National Football League (NFL) title, also understands the importance of Romo and has backed him to perform well this season after a positive start against the defending champions
New York Giants.
Cowboys are going to play their Week 2 game against Seattle Seahawks, the same team that defeated them in the 2006 wildcard playoff round.
It was Romo’s first season as starter and the one-point loss resulted because the quarterback had fumbled a field goal snap.
The Cowboys have reached playoffs twice after that season, but are yet to display any heroics and Jones is hoping that this would be the season for the Cowboys to end this drought.
As Cowboys prepare to take on Seahawks, Jones has acknowledged that Romo has greatly evolved as a quarterback since the playoff defeat against Seahawks. Supporting his quarterback, Jones said:
“You have seen, in his case, a person and a player that is continually striving for ways to get better. It’s one of his best qualities. He never sits still or thinks in the now. He’s always trying to think ahead, getting better in different circumstances,
how he can be a better player for the Cowboys.”
Jones added:
“Just the time that has passed and the nature of Romo says probably all you need to say. As far as learning lessons from experiences, again, he’s excellent at that and incorporating the negatives in his game as well.”
Jones’ trust in Romo is going to add to the quarterback’s confidence. He has been criticised a number of times for not being able to take the team to Super Bowl, but Romo has always received backing from team officials, especially Jones and head coach Jason
Garrett.
Romo has marked positive start to the season against Giants as he completed 22 passes of 29 attempts and gained 307 yards while scoring three touchdowns, and throwing one interception. If he is able to give good performances consistently, the Cowboys could
regain their lost glory.
