Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones backs head coach Jason Garrett – NFL News
Despite the team’s slumping performance this season, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has extended his full support to head coach Jason Garrett.
It looks as if the Cowboys might spend another season without qualifying for the playoffs, but Jones, although disappointed with the team’s effort, is seemingly not considering replacing Jason.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Jones said of Garrett:
“I have a lot of faith in Jason. Jason’s future is ahead of him. I know how hard he works. I like his philosophy. I have a lot of confidence that one of the bright spots of this team is our head coaching.”
The rumours regarding threats to Garrett’s job started emerging recently when it was reported that Sean Payton, who is serving his suspension, might become a free agent head coach after this season.
Many speculations indicated that if Cowboys failed to qualify for the postseason this time, they would fire Garrett and Payton would eventually take up the job.
However, there was no official word on any aspect of this matter until recently when Jones denied having any such ambitions.
Jones even said that he had no idea about Payton’s situation. He said:
“I had no idea about that. I had no understanding of anything that had to do with his or the Saints’ business or their contracts. That was news to me.”
Cowboys (3-5) are tied with Philadelphia Eagles at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) East, behind defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants (6-3).
All the mentioned teams lost their respective games in Week 9, which still gives an opportunity for Cowboys and Eagles to recover from their respective slumps and try to get close to Giants.
Eagles and Cowboys are going to face each other in Week 10 and the team that faces defeat in this game will have very thin or no hopes of reaching the postseason.
So it is important for Garrett that the Cowboys win. Although Jones has backed the head coach, there is no denying that the owner could change his mind if the season ends on a humiliating note for the Cowboys.
