Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones backs quarterback Tony Romo – NFL News
The Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has backed quarterback Tony Romo, rubbishing all doubts that his position in the team was in danger.
After another season in which the Cowboys failed to qualify for the playoffs, Jones has come out to strongly support the quarterback, saying that they need to provide more weapons for the quarterback rather than replacing him.
The Cowboys lost the regular season finale to the Washington Redskins last week in a do-or-die game, and Romo’s game in terms of accuracy was not up to the mark. He sent three interceptions in the game, and the final one came at a very crucial stage when
the Cowboys were seemingly in a winning position.
However, that one interception does not reflect Romo’s overall performance. The quarterback struggled on a few occasions during the season, but maintained good stats throughout. In 16 games he played in the 2012 season, Romo completed a total of 425 passes
of 648 attempts for 4,903 yards, and scored 28 passing touchdowns while giving away 19 interceptions.
Jones is of the view that with Romo the Cowboys have a better chance of winning a Super Bowl title and regaining their lost glory. According to the details present on the team’s website, Jones said on 105.3 FM “The Fan” that there is a need to add better
players on the roster to support Romo.
Jones said:
“The real issue is we have Tony Romo, and we have a quarterback that I have all the confidence in the world in him, and our team needs to use his experience, use what he does the best. We need to use that. We need to do things offensively that maximize that.
That’s what the team that we played Sunday did. They used their personnel, those two guys, that quarterback and that running back, who were playing in college this time last year.”
He also announced long-term job security for Romo and said that the quarterback is “an asset that’s going to be with the Dallas Cowboys, as far as I’m concerned, for a long time.”
The Cowboys finished this season at 8-8, the same record they had last season, and now they must add the players who could actually support Romo or else they might end with another disappointing season next time.
