Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes his team still has shot at championship – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has once again adopted a rather ambitious approach towards analysing his team’s performance, saying that Cowboys still have a chance at winning a championship this season.
Talking to KRLD-FM, via ESPN, Jones once again sighted example of defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants, who won only nine games last regular season to qualify for the playoffs and eventually win the title.
Jones was of the view that his team could also stage a similar performance and get a shot at the title. He said:
"We've got to have some wins to make sure we're in the hunt, but I keep pointing out we're fresh off a world champion (Giants) that won nine of 16 ballgames last year. We know you want your team as healthy and as in sync as it can be as we get on into the
end of the season. We know we've played one division game and won it. We got those guys (the Giants) coming back in here. We know that's going to be a big game for us.”
The owner also spoke about Cowboys’ Week 6, two-point loss against Baltimore Ravens and said that even though the Cowboys lost the game there were a lot of positives for the team in the game.
Cowboys have won two games this season and lost three and are currently on a two-game losing streak with the recent defeats coming against Chicago Bears (34-18) and Ravens (31-29).
Cowboys are currently placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East, which is led by Giants (4-2), while Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles are tied at second spot with 3-3 each.
Jones has been harbouring hopes of having the National Football League (NFL) trophy since a long time. Although he has tried to cover the Cowboys’ flaws by citing Giants’ last season performance, he must also note that NFC East is much more competitive this
season.
Cowboys still have an advantage over other teams as they have only played a total of five games while the rest of the three teams have played six games each so far. To avail that advantage, however, the Cowboys must perform well and secure some victories.
