Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones does not want to push injured players hard – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said that he does not want to push the injured players hard to return to the field without recovering completely.
He was speaking with reference to the respective injuries of wide receiver Miles Austin and cornerback Morris Claiborne.
Both players are out of the ongoing training camp at the moment and might not be able to play some preseason games, but Jones is keeping his focus on the regular season and even if the players miss the preseason games, Jones has not problem with it.
Austin is out with a strained hamstring and it is expected that he might not be able to recover for the Cowboys’ first preseason game to be played on August 13 against Oakland Raiders.
Claiborne, on the other hand, might be able to join the team for the preseason games as his injury is not very serious and the team has sidelined him just as a precautionary measure.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Jones has said that he is not concerned about Austin’s injury and that such minor injuries are part of the training sessions.
While mentioning that there is still a month left before the Cowboys decide their final line-up, the owner said:
“There's no need to get out here and try and push these guys and get something that could take weeks. The only thing I can remember is how last year it took weeks for him (Austin) to get back. What you're seeing is preventative, so it won't take weeks."
Meanwhile, Jones has also echoed the same sentiments for the Cowboys’ first-round pick of this year’s draft, cornerback Morris Claiborne.
Jones has expressed excitement to see the rookie on the field and said:
"I've seen enough of him to be really excited about what he's going to do for our team this year. And he's really kept up with everything, relative to the classroom work, and of course he's been out here all the time, and I'm just glad it's not a very serious
sprain.”
Jones is already very cautious about every matter related to the team. Recently, he also asserted that he did not want his franchise to get into any sort of controversy. He was speaking with reference to the arrest of Dez Bryant.
