Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones ready to move on if Dez Bryant stays the same – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant’s recent arrest has brought negative publicity not only to him but to the entire franchise, which is more than enough to annoy the franchise owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
Although Jones recently had a ‘good visit’ with Bryant, who was later released after reportedly posting a bond, the owner has urged the player to improve his off-field behaviour or face consequences.
Bryant was arrested after allegedly assaulting her mother. Even though her mother has now said that she does not want to pursue the case, the receiver could face action from the league office.
It is not the first time that Bryant is involved in any off-field dispute. He performs well on the field, but the Cowboys have now started to feel the heat owing to his off-field problems.
Whenever Bryant gets in trouble, the franchise gets in the limelight as well and Jones does not like controversies.
Jones is of the view that Bryant should improve his behaviour and become reliable or else face consequences. According to the details present on the team’s website, the owner said of the receiver:
“We want to see a recognition of how serious he is And we recognize the perception (of this situation) is not good. Controversy is not good. But there is also the issue of being able to rely on him, his teammates as well as his coaches and other people on
the team. If we can’t rely on him, there will be a lot of consequences for him.”
Talking on The Dan Patrick Show, Jones adopted a rather serious tone while discussing Bryant. The owner made it clear that the player must feel his responsibility. Jones even went on to say that the Cowboys would not be able to count on him if Bryant
stayed the same.
Jones said:
“He's just got to come on, step up and accept responsibility, and I think he can get there. I'm demanding that he work through it. He must do it or we can't count on him."
The message is clear and simple for Bryant, who has been asked not to talk to media. If the receiver wants to secure his future with the team, he must improve his behaviour.
