Dallas Cowboys’ performance review in the National Football League regular season – NFL Special (Part II)
Continued from part I...
Against St. Louis Rams
The lowly St. Louis Rams finally provided an opportunity for the Cowboys to get back on the winning ways.
After losing three of their starting five games, the Cowboys vented their frustration out on the Rams by dominating almost all the quarters of the game.
The Rams only scored a touchdown during the game, whereas the Cowboys scored in every quarter.
They finished with four touchdowns and two field goals to snap the losing streak.
Rookie, DeMarco Murray, who finished with 253 yards, rushed for a 91-yard touchdown and Romo sent two touchdown passes in the victory.
At Philadelphia
It looked as if the Eagles, who had lost four of their six games, took revenge from the Cowboys on behalf of the Rams.
The Cowboys were dominated completely by the Eagles when they travelled to Philadelphia.
The Eagles scored two touchdowns in the first quarter to get a lead, which was extended in the next two quarters as the Cowboys searched for their first scoring opportunity.
The Cowboys scored their first touchdown in the final quarter, but by that time, the Eagles had already scored 34 points and there was no chance for registering a comeback.
Against Seattle Seahawks
After being rattled by the Eagles, the Cowboys returned home where they hosted Seattle Seahawks.
At halftime, both teams were levelled at 6-6.
The Cowboys scored their first touchdown of the game to get the lead in the third quarter.
In the final quarter, the Cowboys scored a touchdown and a field goal and grabbed a firm grip over the game.
The Seahawks did try to retaliate, but one touchdown was not enough to surpass the lead and they were defeated eventually.
Against Buffalo Bills
The Cowboys stayed home next week as well and hosted Buffalo Bills.
The fans were expecting to see the Cowboys repeating the last week’s performance.
Things turned out slightly different. The Cowboys did not repeat the performance. Instead, they performed better and defeated the opponents by even bigger margin.
In the game against the Bills, Romo completed 23 of 26 attempted passes for 270 yards. While avoiding interceptions, he threw three touchdown passes and received a quarterback rating of 148.4.
The only scoring move for the Bills came in the second quarter when Ryan Fitzpatrick sent a three-yard pass to David Nelson.
On the other hand, the Cowboys scored five touchdowns and three field goals and ended the game at 44-7.
At Washington
After getting two straight victories at home, the Cowboys headed to Washington.
The Cowboys started the game well and dominated the first quarter. However, most of the next quarter and complete third quarter remained under Redskins’ control.
The Redskins scored two touchdowns and a field goal and were leading, 17-10, at the end of the third quarter.
The Cowboys were impressive in the final quarter. Romo initiated two crucial drives and got two touchdowns in the final quarter to get a seven-point lead over the opponents.
However, the Redskins did not settle. They responded by scoring a touchdown in the final minute to level the scores and force the game to overtime.
In the extra period, Dan Bailey scored a 39-yard field goal to give Cowboys their third straight win.
Romo was once again brilliant. After completing 23 passes of 37 attempts for 292 yards and sending three touchdown passes, he received a quarterback rating of 113.8.
