Dallas Cowboys place linebacker Sean Lee on IR – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys finally placed linebacker Sean Lee on season-ending injured reserve (IR) on Wednesday, after it was confirmed earlier that the player would require a season-ending surgery to repair his toe.
Meanwhile, Cowboys also put punter Chris Jones on season-ending IR after the player was unable to continue playing owing to a knee injury.
Reports regarding this development had started coming a day earlier, but an official confirmation was awaited.
Cowboys had a day off on Tuesday, so all the developments were officially confirmed on Wednesday when head coach Jason Garrett spoke to media.
As per different reports, Lee will undergo a surgery next week and will be able to return only for the next season.
Lee’s absence is a serious setback to Cowboys’ hopes of reaching the playoffs this season as he provided great support to the defensive line.
Garrett was certainly disappointed with the player’s injury, but he maintained that there was nothing anybody could do in such a situation. He said of Lee, via ESPN:
"I can't tell you how well he's been playing since he's been our starting inside linebacker. He's the leader of the defence. He makes the calls. He plays the right way in practice. He plays the right way in the game. He defends the run. He defends the pass.
He's a bell cow for us and a guy that really, really everybody on our defence and football team looks up to. He goes about it the right way and he's an outstanding person as well. We love everything about him. It's obviously unfortunate and disappointing that
he had the injury."
Meanwhile, Cowboys have also made some roster adjustment so as to make space for new arrivals. They have signed safety Charlie Peprah and linebacker Ernie Sims.
The Cowboys will also have to make some adjustments to their defensive line setting because Lee’s position is going to taken up by an experienced player.
Cowboys are heading towards a tough encounter as they will take on defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants this weekend, and such developments are in no way going to help their cause.
