Dallas Cowboys punter, Mat McBriar, satisfied with the idea of undergoing a surgery – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys punter, Mat McBriar, who is expected to have a surgery next week to dissolve a cyst in his left leg, seems satisfied with the idea of undergoing the medical examination and said on Monday, January 30, 2012, that it is ‘great news’.
McBriar missed a couple of games during the regular season of the National Football League (NFL) current season owing to the injury.
Initially it was suggested that he had a drop foot, but later medical examinations confirmed the presence of cyst below his knee.
“It was exciting to find out there's a real cause to it now," he said. "To know there is a way to remedy that ... the future looks bright. It's really the best news I could get.”
Despite not being hundred per cent, he played six games for Cowboys in which his average was not as good as it should be, but he was applauded by everyone for being tough.
He was, however, placed on injured reserve when Cowboys played against New York Giants in the regular season finale.
Now McBriar thinks that he will be at his best after the surgery, which is going to limit him from stepping on the field for around a month and he will require even more time to recover completely.
McBriar believes that he will be hundred per cent fit in the next season.
While acknowledging the fact that such treatments are troublesome for sportsmen, he said that the surgery will help him throughout his life.
He said:
"Yeah, it's terrible timing, but this is probably just a little bit more than just being able to play, but having a functional foot for the rest of my life."
McBriar started his professional career after joining Cowboys’ practice squad in 2003. He will be unrestricted free agent after two months, but is hopeful for getting another contract.
When asked what his future prospects will be, McBriar said that he would love to spend the rest of his career with Cowboys.
He commented:
"I'd love to finish my career as being a one-team player. In this day and age that doesn't happen a lot, but to me that would mean something. Ideally I'd like to finish my career here."
McBriar informed that the doctor he is consulting has a sufficient experience in handling cases like his and carries a great success ratio with such surgeries.
The exact date of his surgery has not been announced.
