Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo: Championship window not closing – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, Tony Romo, has asserted that the championship window is not closing for the team, saying that the players should keep on working hard to win the National Football League (NFL) title.
Romo’s remarks came after the franchise’s owner, Jerry Jones, commented that he was falling short of options.
While mentioning the presence of the veterans in the squad, Jones had highlighted that these players would retire from the league within the next few years and their exit could further damage the team, which is struggling to win the title since more than
a decade.
During 1990s, Cowboys won three Super Bowl titles. They include the Super Bowl XXVII, XXVIII and x*x.
The Cowboys won their last Super Bowl in the 1995 season and reached the playoffs only seven times after that victory.
They last qualified for the playoffs in the 2009 season and have not been able to win even any conference championship title since winning their last Super Bowl.
Romo, 32, has been playing for the Cowboys since starting his professional career in 2003. Although he has not been able to win the title for the team, he thinks that the opportunity is not lost.
According to ESPN, Romo said:
"It's not closing. I think there's a sense of urgency every year that you play, whether it's your first year in the league or your 22nd.”
He added:
“You never know when all that stuff is going to happen, so you just play every year as if it's an urgent day. Forget about thinking about the end of the year or two months away. You've got to get better today. Whether you're a rookie or an 11-year veteran
around here, you've got to do that same approach.”
Recently, three former players of the team, running back, Emmitt Smith, quarterback, Troy Aikman, and wide receiver, Michael Irvin, also highlighted the reasons for Cowboys inability to win the Super Bowl.
All the three players were part of different squads that won the three Super Bowls in 1990s. They were of the view that the departure of coach, Jimmy Johnson, was the main reason behind the team’s failure.
