Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo becomes franchise leading touchdown passer – NFL News
As Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo entered the field on Sunday in the second half of Week 13 game against Philadelphia Eagles, he was focused only on getting scoring opportunities that would end the Eagles’ lead.
After struggling to send a touchdown pass in the first two quarters of the game, Romo sent a 23-yard touchdown pass to Dez Bryant in the third quarter. The move tied the Cowboys score with the Eagles at 17-17, but it was much more significant than that.
By scoring the touchdown, Romo became the Cowboys leading touchdown passer, beating the record formerly held by Hall of Famer Troy Aikman. Romo went on to score two more touchdowns in the game and eventually sealed a victory for his team.
As per Romo’s overall career stats, he has 168 touchdown passes to his name. Entering this game, he stood at 165 touchdowns, tying Aikman’s record.
His record-setting game become more exciting for the Cowboys as they won it and kept their playoff hopes alive.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Romo said after the game:
“Well, I think it’s about winning games. Troy (Aikman), obviously, being a guy if you’re in any discussion with him in anything, you’re doing something right. Obviously, that feels very rewarding.”
Meanwhile, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones also praised his quarterback for setting the record and said:
“I can still picture him when he first got on the Cowboys and the defensive coaches would just pull their hair out in frustration because they couldn’t stop him. Then they would say ‘Well, he’s got to play right … because that won’t win in the NFL.’ So it
was nice to see him have the night he did and break the record.”
This season Romo has not been able to display miracles as he struggled with his accuracy in a few games. In 12 games this season, he has completed a total of 324 passes of 483 attempts for 3,660 yards. He has scored a total of 19 touchdowns while sending
15 interceptions.
Cowboys have four more games left in the regular season.
