Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo optimistic about 2012 season – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has expressed optimism about the team’s chances in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season, saying that the changes Cowboys have made in the offseason will prove beneficial.
Cowboys have added players during the free agency and this year’s draft and Romo thinks that the addition of new players to the roster will help the team’s winning chances in the upcoming season.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Romo mentioned that the team did not do much in the free agency in the previous seasons. He pointed out the free agency moves of this year and said:
“Each year it’s a different team. I don’t know if it was two years ago or a year and a half ago, whatever it was, when we didn’t do much in free agency, so we had a similar type of team come back. We don’t have a ton of years like that. This year was completely
different. We had a lot of turnover. We got a bunch of guys in free agency. We’ve got some draft picks that we’re counting on.”
Romo has faced a lot of criticism from some fans and observers as he has not yet been able to take the team to any Super Bowl or National Football Conference (NFC) championship game.
Although he is considered a very good quarterback, his inability to secure more victories and perform well under pressure has brought him in the line of fire repeatedly.
However, he has always got support from the team management. Owner Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett have been supportive of the quarterback right from the start.
Garrett still believes that Romo is capable of securing victories for the Cowboys and leading them to a glorious season. He said of Romo:
“Tony has gotten better in so many areas. He’s matured as a player. He’s matured as a leader.”
Last year, Cowboys were close to qualifying for the playoffs but lost their regular-season finale, which was a do-or-die game, against the New York Giants and got eliminated.
Romo has said that the players have taken steps to overcome their flaws and the quarterback thinks that the team will be better than last year.
