Dallas Cowboys’ running back DeMarco Murray is ‘ready to go’ – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys’ running back, DeMarco Murray, whose performance was one of the feel-good stories for the team during the last National Football League (NFL) season, has said that he has recovered from his ankle injury and that he is ready to go for the 2012
season.
Murray, who played his rookie season last year, was initially appointed as third-string running back, but an injury to Felix Jones paved the way for Murray to become starter.
He performed exceptionally well and forced Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, and head coach, Jason Garrett, to give Murray the status of permanent starter.
However, Murray was unfortunate as he received an ankle injury that forced him out of the remaining games of the last season.
He started seven games last year while playing 13 in which he registered a total of 897 rushing yards on 164 attempts. He also scored two touchdowns.
After the season, he underwent a surgery to repair his ankle and has been doing rehabs since then.
Murray has not yet stepped on the field to participate in any kind of workout, but he is desperate to do so. He visited the team’s facility recently and was happy to be around his teammates.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Murray said during the Cowboys Golf Classic on Wednesday:
“It’s going great. Just happy to be around the guys, happy to be able to catch some footballs. I’ve been working out since the season ended so I’m excited to get things rolling a little bit. Rehab is great. I’m definitely cleared and ready to go.”
Meanwhile, Jones has also taken notice of Murray’s recovery. The owner also acknowledged that Murray has been working out hard to recover from the injury and said that the player is ready to go.
Jones said:
“He’s healthy. He’s ready. He’s had great results, a great recovery. He’s a work guy. I feel good about our running backs.”
Cowboys are going to start their organised team activities (OTAs) recently and all senior players will join the coaches for veteran’s training camp next month.
It is not clear if Murray is going to attend those sessions, but it is expected that he might be fit and healthy at the start of the upcoming season.
