Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray likely to sit out against New York Giants – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, who his recovering from an injured foot, might not be able to play Week 8 game against defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants, different media reports have indicated.
Although there is no official confirmation about the news, it is expected that the player would be out of this weekend’s game as he was unable to take part in practice session on Wednesday.
Head coach Jason Garrett said of Murray, via ESPN:
"Hopefully he's just progressing. He's moving around better, he's in the meetings and we'll just see where he is. We don't anticipate him practicing (Wednesday), and we'll see where he is going forward."
This comes as a serious blow to the Cowboys, who placed a couple of players on season-ending injured reserve (IR) on Wednesday.
Linebacker Sean Lee and punter Chris Jones are out of the season and now the possibility of Murray sitting out is further going to hurt the Cowboys.
The Cowboys have a chance of gaining lead in National Football Conference (NFC) East by defeating Giants, but injuries to some of the key players in the offensive as well as defensive lines might not help their cause.
Murray missed the last game against Carolina Panthers as well, and although Cowboys were able to win that game, their running game struggled badly.
In Murray’s absence, the running game was dependent on Felix Jones and Phillip Tanner. Cowboys could not even get 100 rushing yards against Panthers and that is why it is expected that Murray’s absence against Giants could hurt the offence badly and limit
options for quarterback Tony Romo.
In Murray’s absence, Jones and Tanner will once again take up the responsibility of managing the running game.
Meanwhile, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has also expressed disappointment on the possibility of missing Murray. The owner hoped that the running back would not be out for long, but Jones could not give any timeline for Murray’s return. According to the details
present on the team’s website, Jones said of Murray’s absence:
“I don’t think it’s long term. I think we’ll have him back in the foreseeable future. I wouldn’t predict.”
