Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones misses practice – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones missed the team’s practice session on Tuesday owing to a hamstring injury, fuelling the speculations that he would not play in one of the most important games for the Cowboys on Saturday
against Philadelphia Eagles. However, Coach Jason Garrett is hopeful that Jones will return to practice later in the week and that he will be completely fit to play the game on the Christmas Eve.
Jones was injured earlier in the season as well, which gave a chance to rookie DeMarco Murray to start the game for the Cowboys. Murray was more than impressive in the seven games he started, but had to sit out after a season-ending
ankle injury.
The incident once again provided an opportunity for Jones, who had recovered from the injury, to become the starter. Jones rushed for more than 100 yards in the last two games against New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers respectively,
ensuring the Cowboys do not feel any void in terms of availability of running backs.
Now when the Cowboys are headed up for a crucial encounter, Jones’ absence can torment them against the Eagles. If Jones does not make it to the final line-up, the Cowboys are going to start with the newly-acquired backup Sammy
Morris.
"We're hopeful that Felix can be ready to practice later in the week," the Cowboys Coach Jason Garrett said. "But we have confidence in Sammy. He's a veteran back who knows what to do. And if he has to play a lot, we think he can
help us."
Morris also took the field during the game against the Bucs last week. In his short appearance, he rushed 12 times for 53 yards. Now, if needed, he is ready to start the game against the Eagles. He said that he is prepared to lead
his team to a victory, which, according to him, is the only thing that matters.
"My goal is the same thing it was last Saturday, is to help the team win," Morris said. "It's not really complicated. Whatever it is, just help the team win. It doesn't matter if I get five carries or 20 carries. It's a matter
of approaching the game with the mindset of helping the team win.”
The Cowboys have won eight games this season and lost six. They are leading the National Football Conference East division and should win their remaining two games in the regular season if they want to reach the playoffs.
