Dallas Cowboys’ tight end Jason Witten comments on the upcoming season – NFL News
It has been a long time since Dallas Cowboys won their last Super Bowl title, and the eagerness to get the glory again has been prevailing in the camp for quite some time now, but some of their players think that the team will find its lost glory in the
2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
Tight end, Jason Witten, who earlier commented on the team’s bright chances in the next season after it had failed to qualify for the playoffs last year, has reiterated his stance saying that everyone is focused and determined to win the title this year.
Witten started his professional NFL career in 2003 and he has only played for the Cowboys since turning pro.
He is desperate to win the title for his team, which has not even won the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game since more than 15 years.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Witten acknowledges that the window of opportunity can present itself any time, but he is also aware of the fact that opportunity does not last long.
He said:
“You try not to think about the window. But obviously, we're realists. We understand where it's at. I feel great and we're playing great. But it's about now. I think that's how this whole organization thinks, from owner to head coach to veteran players to
rookie players. That's the way this league works."
Last year, Cowboys had an opportunity to qualify for the playoffs, but they slumped towards the end of the regular season and lost the chance.
Interestingly, they lost their regular-season finale, which was a do-or-die game for both teams, against the New York Giants, who later on won the Super Bowl XLVI.
The loss against Giants crushed Witten and he is still not over it. However, he is hopeful of settling the scores when both teams will take on each other in the next season’s opening game.
Witten said of the last loss and future ambitions:
"It crushes you. You don't need a loss like that to motivate you. That's for sure. Every year you're more and more motivated. You realize that time is now for a lot of key players. You need to take advantage of that.”
On the other hand, Witten also gave credit to the Giants for performing well and outclassing the Cowboys and other teams last year.
