Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten hopeful about team’s rebound – NFL News
After four weeks of the regular season, the Dallas Cowboys, who had started off the season well, are placed at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) East at 2-2.
Except for their season opener against New York Giants, their offence has not yet been able to display effective performance that could win games for them.
In their Week 2 loss against Seattle Seahawks, Cowboys scored only seven points. They managed 16 points in their Week 3 victory over Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while they only got 18 points in their Week 4 defeat against Chicago Bears.
If this trend continues the Cowboys might not be able to qualify for the playoffs, but tight end Jason Witten is hopeful that the team will gain consistency and offence will also find its rhythm soon.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Witten is of the view that the team needs to look for minor errors that are hindering the progress. He said:
“I know people look for a different answer, but the teams that are able to do that, those are the ones that are able to compete for championships and have success. That’s what we have to do. The details matter.”
The tight end has also cited example of Giants, who won the Super Bowl after a sluggish regular season last year. He said:
“We talk so much about the Giants, they were 7-7, they shook it off, said, ‘We’re going to fix it,’ and they went and won a Super Bowl. It’s not that simple, but that’s what you have to do.”
The Giants certainly put a lot of effort to win the title by overcoming hurdles in the regular season and they did even better to carry on the momentum into the postseason.
If Cowboys also want to do the same, they need mental toughness.
Meanwhile, Witten has also backed head coach Jason Garrett, saying that he is a great coach even though the Cowboys have not won many games. Witten said of Garrett:
“He understands the adjustments and all that goes in. He’s doing a phenomenal job. We’ve just got to play better.”
Cowboys will not play any game this week and it gives them an opportunity to evaluate their performance and come up well prepared to face Baltimore Ravens in Week 6 game.
