Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten takes blame, ready to bounce back – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys have long relied on effective performance from their tight end Jason Witten, who has supported the offensive line quite handsomely, but the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season has so far been a nightmare for the veteran.
Witten started the season with an injury and his participation in the season opener against New York Giants was very much appreciated because he had his team’s interest in mind.
In Week 2 and Week 3 games, Witten again stepped on the field, but did not look like his old self. The tight end has dropped a few passes, received penalties for false start, and also failed to guard quarterback Tony Romo once.
This led to the doubts that Witten is still injured and that is why he is unable to give his best. However, the player has denied facing any problem because of his injury.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Witten has made it clear that the slump is his performance is not because of the injury. He has also accepted that there are many flaws in his performance and that he needs to seriously work on them.
He said:
“No really excuses or any other way to say it. There was an opportunity to make plays. Not all of them are perfect opportunities to where it’s just between the 8 and the 2 and you catch it and go on. But they’re plays I expect to make, plays that you see
week in and week out in the NFL, and I haven’t made them over the last two weeks. I take full responsibility for it, and rest assured I’ll get it fixed.”
Cowboys are 2-1 after the first three weeks, and apart from the game against Giants, their performance, especially on offence, was not very impressive. They struggled to score points against Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 game while Tampa Bay Buccaneers also
gave them pretty tough time.
As they prepare to face Chicago Bear for Week 4 game, Witten is hoping to find his rhythm back. He said:
“I don’t want my legacy or this time in my career to be remembered for that, and it won’t be.”
