Dallas Cowboys to choose between linebacker Don Connor and Ernie Sims – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys have to choose between linebacker Don Connor and Ernie Sims for Week 11 game against Cleveland Browns.
Sims replaced Connor in Week 8 game against New York Giants when he got his neck injured. Sims has played three games and has recorded 16 tackles.
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was satisfied with Sims’ performance. He said of Sims:
“He was here for about three days and ended up playing a lot of snaps in a game. He’s done a good job and he’s learning more and more on how to play the Will linebacker position in our scheme. It’s showing up in games. It’s not perfect by any means, but
he goes about it the right way.”
Garrett believes that Sims is going to learn quickly and he has ability to give better results.
On the other hand, Connor has recorded 13 tackles in five games he has played. He replaced Sean Lee, who injured his toe during Week 7 game against Carolina Panthers.
Lee went through a season-ending surgery recently. To back up Connor, Cowboys signed Sims, which proved to be a good step.
To back up Sims, Cowboys signed veteran linebacker Gary Guyton. After seeing him practise for three days, Cowboys were not impressed and release him.
Connor has now recovered from his injury and participated in practice session. Now the coach has to decide whether Connor or Sims is going to play on Sunday.
Garrett was happy with Connor’s comeback, he said:
“He did some work (Wednesday) both on defence and in the kicking game. So we’re hopeful he’s back from that injury and we’ll see how he progresses in the next couple of days. It’s good to have him back as an alternative.”
Connor was selected by Carolina Panthers as 74th overall pick of the 2008 National Football League (NFL) draft, while Sims was selected by Detroit Lions as ninth overall pick in first round of the 2006 NFL draft.
