Dallas Cowboys up for easing pressure on quarterback Tony Romo – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo admitted that he tried to do too much against Chicago Bears in Week 4 game, which his team lost miserably, and that is why the team has decided to ease some pressure on the quarterback.
Romo threw five interceptions during the game against Bears and such a performance from any quarterback is sure to hit the team’s victory chances.
Romo, who otherwise is very accurate when it comes to finding receivers, got some time off, thanks for Cowboys’ bye week after the defeat.
As Cowboys now prepare to face Baltimore Ravens, who are even more threatening than Bears, they are hoping that Romo will be able to improve his performance by doing ‘less’.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Cowboys offensive coordinator Bill Callahan has said that alleviating pressure on Romo does not mean that the team does not trust him. In fact, he has appreciated the quarterback for having good command
over his game. Callahan said:
“We’re not taking things away from Tony and what he does best because he’s got great command of this system. He does an outstanding job communicating calls or changing plays. He’s got a real uniqueness that I’ve found watching him play since I’ve been here.”
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has also said that Romo does not need to take extra pressure that could hurt his performance and decrease his efficiency.
Garrett said of Romo:
“He just has to go back and be 1/11th of the offence like he’s been throughout most of his career and do his job and trust everybody else to do their job.”
Meanwhile, Romo is also expected to take some additional responsibility against Ravens. Since Chris Jones and Brian Moorman are injured, Romo might hold the ball for kicker Dan Bailey on field goal attempts.
However, it is not confirmed that Romo will take up that role because the injured players could get fit and become part of the squad. Cowboys could also hire someone to take care of this responsibility for the rest of the season.
If that does not happen, Romo is still ready to take up the role. He said:
“I took a few snaps this week. So if that’s needed, I’ll be ready.”
