Dallas Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones still hopeful of playoff chances – NFL News
Even though the road seems tough for the Dallas Cowboys to qualify for the playoffs, their vice president Stephen Jones has expressed great optimism about his team’s chances.
Cowboys have won five games this season while losing six. They are currently tied at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) East with Washington Redskins, while defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants are leading the division at 7-4.
It is very difficult for the Cowboys to secure a playoff berth because they have to get as many wins as possible during the rest of the season, while they must pray for the Giants to lose their games.
In his case, the Cowboys could win the division and enter the playoffs. The other scenario for them is to qualify for the playoffs through a wildcard. In this case, the Cowboys have to win their games while hoping for other NFC wildcard contenders to lose
theirs.
It is easy to note it down, but it brings an added amount of pressure when players step on the field keeping such a situation in mind.
However, Jones is confident and believes that the season is very much alive for the Cowboys. According to the details present on the team’s website, Jones said:
“Absolutely … we’ll battle to the end. We have just as good a chance as anyone else. We’re a game out of the Wildcard. Two games out of the division lead. We’re going to fight and play hard. We’ve played a lot of these good teams and we feel like on any
given Sunday we can play with them.”
The Cowboys entered the season with a sound defensive strength that has played vital role in some of their victories. However, they are dealing with a few injury problems on the defensive line at present.
Jones is of the view that the injuries must not hurt the team’s chances because every team faces such a situation. He maintained that injuries are a part of game and said:
“Other teams have to deal with it. It’s probably more than normal. There are teams with quarterbacks out, and other key players. We just have to keep battling. And we will.”
