Dallas Cowboys want to hold Dez Bryant accountable – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has said that the Cowboys have imposed rules on wide receiver Dez Bryant’s to take care of his off-field issues, but other than preventing the player from engaging in any sort of trouble the Cowboys also want to hold
him accountable for his actions.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, the head coach is of the view that the management is not just focusing on Bryant. In fact, he said, the Cowboys take care of the needs of all their players.
Garrett commented:
“The balance with all players is you want to support them and you want to help them, but you also want to hold them accountable. We believe in player development. We believe in helping them as football players on the field and as people off the field, and
so what we’ve tried to do is come up with a plan for Dez, like we would with any player who we feel needs our support, and help him be his best as a player and as a person.”
Earlier, the player reportedly agreed to strict guidelines that the team had suggested for him to take care of his off-field conduct.
As per the agreement between the player and the franchise, Bryant will not consume alcohol, go to nightclubs only after getting prior approval from the team management, and carry one member of a three-man security team assigned to be with him.
The new guidelines were agreed after the Cowboys returned to Dallas from California where they had their training camp.
Bryant is an important part of the Cowboys’ offensive unit and the team wants him to stay away from all distractions so he could keep his focus on the upcoming season.
Bryant was recently arrested for assaulting his mother and it was expected that he might even get punishment from the league office. Throughout his brief career, Bryant has made the headlines for both good and bad reasons and that is something that might
hurt his future with the team as well.
The Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has made it very clear that he does not want negative publicity for his franchise and that he would move on from Bryant if the receiver did not improve his behaviour.
