Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver Miles Austin to be out for a week – NFL News
Wide receiver Miles Austin looks set to miss the Dallas Cowboys’ first preseason game as he has again injured his hamstring.
Austin, 28, missed second part of the practice session on Saturday, August 04, 2012. He got a strained hamstring in the first half and was sidelined as a precautionary measure.
Head coach Jason Garrett gave some estimation about how much time Austin will take to recover fully. He said:
"Certainly a few days, up to a week, but again we’ll be cautious with him along the way. He’s had a great start to camp, by the way.”
The injury does not look to be as bad as Austin suffered in the last season. In the 2011 season, Austin missed six games after pulling both of his hamstrings.
Last season was not the first time Austin had problems with his hamstring. He has a long list of hamstring-related injuries spanning throughout his career.
Cowboys must be cautious with Austin this time, especially with the record of injuries that he has. Talking about Austin’s injury, Garrett said:
"We just have to learn from that experience (from last season), and he has to learn from that experience. Making sure he's getting all the hydration he needs, getting all the treatment. He's been doing all that stuff, but we have to make sure we're somewhat
cautious with him in making sure we're not getting him back too soon and then when we get him back making sure we continue to monitor that.”
Coach Garrett has hinted that too much of hard work done by Austin during the practice session could be the reason behind his current injury.
Cowboys will play their first preseason game on Monday, August 13, 2012 against Oakland Raiders.
Cowboys drafted Austin as a free Agent in 2006. Last season, he played ten games, in which he covered a total of 579 receiving yards and got seven touchdowns.
Kevin Ogletree looks set to replace Austin, as he practised with the first team during Austin’s absence.
It will be interesting to see what Cowboys will do if Austin fails to recover on time and misses more preseason games.
