Dallas Cowboys win as misery continues for Carolina Panthers – NFL Recap
Dallas Cowboys successfully ended their two-game losing streak as they outscored Carolina Panthers in Week 7 game, 19-14, on Sunday, October 21, at Bank of America Stadium.
It was a good game for Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who was finally able to get his rhythm back after a couple of dismal performances.
He finished with completing 24 of his 34 passes for 227 yards and scored one touchdown.
For Panthers, this season is proving to be a nightmare. They have lost five out of six games in the season and are currently on a four-game losing streak. Panthers are placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) South and their quarterback
Cam Newton seems to heading towards a disaster of a season.
Against Cowboys, Newton completed 21 of his 37 passes for 233 yards and was sacked twice for the loss of 17 yards. Newton scored one touchdown and threw one interception.
Panthers linebacker James Anderson said of the team’s recent failures:
"When it rains, it pours. But hey, we've got to play through it."
The victory helped the Cowboys strengthen their position in NFC East, which is led by defending champions New York Giants with five victories and two defeats. Cowboys are 3-3 and tied with Philadelphia Eagles at second spot in the division.
Cowboys have struggled to gain consistency and they were severely criticised for their recent defeats. However, the victory has come for them as a fresh wave of hope. Their defensive end DeMarcus Ware said after the game:
“When you think about some of the adversity we've encountered this season, our focus remains on just getting better. We have been doing that, and this week being able to go out and close a game let us know that hey, we can do it."
The game started on a low note as both teams struggled to score in the first quarter.
Cowboys started second quarter well and got a field goal very early in the quarter. Towards the end of the quarter, Newton connected with Brandon LaFell for a five-yard score to enter halftime with lead.
Romo and Miles Austin connected for a 26-yard score in the third quarter, taking the lead back. Cowboys further increased their lead by scoring a field goal in the quarter.
In the final quarter, Panthers scored a touchdown and got one point ahead of Cowboys. However, Cowboys provided two field goals in the quarter to seal the victory.
Newton is clearly disappointed with the performance he and the team have been giving this season. The quarterback was brilliant last season, but this season is a dreadful tale for him. He said after the defeat:
"Whether it's me, I don't know. Whether it's the coordinator, I don't know. Whether it's the players overall, I don't know. (But) we got to change that man."
Cowboys are now going to face New York Giants, while Panthers will take on Chicago Bears.
