Dallas Mavericks Jason Terry finally makes it Big - NBA Update
In 2006 National Basketball Association Finals, Jason Terry missed a crucial three-pointer in game-6 that would have sent the game into overtime, but unfortunately for him that did not happen and Miami Heat took the Larry O’ Brien
Trophy away from the Dallas Mavericks.
Terry had many sleepless nights because of that unfortunate miss and it took him three weeks to overcome that loss. Then came 2011 NBA finals, where Dallas once again faced their old rival Miami, but this time things went in different
direction.
Initially Terry was struggling in the finals, but eventually he made the breakthrough in game-4, where he shot eight of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and was 6 of 15 during his 35 minutes log. In game-5 Jason enhanced his
performance by punching 21 points along with six assists and four rebounds.
Last but certainly not the least game-6 Terry hit 27 points with a .688 shooting percentage from the field that allowed him to keep his new tattoo of championship trophy, as the Mavs prevailed in last three games and lift the title
for the first time in the history of the franchise. Terry also matched Manu Ginobili’s record of most points in a title deciding game.
Terry said, "I love it. I love pressure. There's no greater pressure than what you put on yourself. Knowing that, I expect great things."
The Mavs outscored the Heat in the perimeter shooting and player behind it, was Terry, as Dallas shot with an average of 56 percent from the field as compared to the Heat 45 percent. With each game Terry showed immense improvement.
During the series Jason successfully made 55 percent of his field goals, 75 percent from the charity stripe and 39 percent from the three-point range.
In the playoffs he scored with an average of 17.5 points in each game, which is above his career (16.2 ppg) average and 2010-11 season scoring average (15.8 ppg).
Terry said, “It wasn't about carrying the team. It was doing my job. My job is to come in and provide a spark, make plays, make shots. I did my job."
For the past five seasons Terry stood among the top 25 shooters of the league, who have deadly precision in 16 to 23 foot shooting, as most of his points usually came from distant shots.
Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said, "All through the playoffs, Jet's all-around game was the thing I thought was most important to our team. Our team always played better when he played solid defence, used the floor on offense,
attacked space, got other guys involved and then stepped into open shots when they were there."
Terry has finally got rid of the demon that had haunted him for almost five years and now he can proudly call himself a champion.
