Dallas Mavericks beat Philadelphia 76ers 101-93
The Dallas Mavericks posted their seventh straight win with a 101-93 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Centre on Tuesday night.
Jason Terry played one of his best games of the season as he came off the bench to score a season-high 30 points. Dirk Nowitzki scored 22 points while Jason Kidd played a superb game with 13 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds. This performance marked the
107th triple-double of Kidd's career.
Shawn Marion had a double-double as he contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Mavericks, who have won 10 of their last 11 road games this season. Jodie Meeks fought hard as he scored a team-high 16 points while Andre Iguodala added 15 for the Sixers,
who had their four-game winning streak snapped.
The 59-year-old Philadelphia Head Coach Doug Collins called the contest a test for the playoffs, since Dallas are one of the NBA’s top teams and could face the 76ers in the first-round of the playoffs.
Collins said after the game, "We played toe-to-toe with one of the best, one of the hottest teams in the league. I am proud of them for that. Our guys are doing this for the first time. They have been at it for a while; they have been here a lot of times.
That showed tonight."
Match Analysis
Both teams started the game ice cold but Dallas managed to make it to the free throw line early, to help build a quick lead.
In the first quarter, the Mavericks played some sloppy basketball but slowly began to build their lead, taking a 23-22 lead into the second. Dallas did not play well offensively in the first, but once again managed to find a way of taking the lead.
In the second quarter the Mavericks got it going offensively and they used that to slowly build up a seven-point lead at 51-44 going into half time. The Sixers controlled every aspect of the third quarter; limiting turnovers, making shots and playing some
tenacious defence.
Philadelphia fought hard to make the score a respectable one, outscoring the Mavericks 33-28 in the third to trail by just two points at 79-77, heading into the final stanza.
Trailing by three-points at the start of the final quarter, Meeks stayed hot during the fourth quarter, as he got the Sixers to within 92-91 with a three-pointer with less than two minutes left. However, the Mavericks responded with consecutive baskets by
Nowitzki and a dunk from Terry to pull ahead by 96-91.
Dallas then went on a 5-3 run in the last minute of the game to seal their 44th victory of the season.
