Dallas Mavericks clinch the first NBA title, Dirk Nowitzki his first championship ring – NBA Update
The 32-year-old Dirk Nowitzki finally furnished his resume with an NBA Championship on Sunday night after thrashing the reeling Miami Heat in the game-6 of the Finals at the American Airlines Arena. Accompanied with the irresistible
might of Nowitzki, the Dallas Mavericks not only clinched the Larry O’Brien Trophy, they also took the revenge from Miami who crushed their hopes for the title during 2006 NBA Finals.
The elongated hunt for the first NBA title kept the German sharp-shooter soaring and scoring throughout this year’s play-offs as Dirk showed no signs of retreat. It was the most special day for the influential power forward of
the Mavericks who achieved the biggest dream of his career.
"I really still can't believe it. We worked so hard and so long for it. The team has had an unbelievable ride."Nowitzki said.
It truly was a big moment for Dirk which will keep him enchanted for the summer break. The big man must be filled with emotions and excitement however everybody believed that Nowitzki is the man for the Mavericks who will guide
the team for their first championship title and it happened this time. Dirk has been providing fireworks all over the court since the start of the post-season and he went absolutely unstoppable against the Miami Heat.
As a result of his untiring performances against all the opposition in the play-offs, Nowitzki was also honoured with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the NBA Finals.
Rick Carlisle, Dallas Mavericks head coach was extremely proud with his team and said after a historic win on Sunday. "This is a true team. This is an old bunch. We don't run fast or jump high. These guys had each other's backs.
We played the right way. We trusted the pass. This is a phenomenal thing for the city of Dallas."
Even though the veteran power on the roster helped Dallas to achieve the feat however Nowitzki was the driving force in the true sense who not only stimulated the offensive and defensive system of the court throughout but also
kept his teammates motivated.
The 38-year-old Jason Kid also completed his resume with a championship ring and said, "I can't believe the journey. The journey, the character of my teammates telling me they wanted to get me a championship. Tonight they came
out and played well. I came here twice, this being my third time so third time was the lucky charm."
After all the hard work and constant exertion, Nowitzki and company will go back home to switch on the celebrations as the NBA champs which they have been waiting for a longer period.
