Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle impressed with Rodrigue Beaubois and Ian Mahinmi - NBA Update
In the last years or so, whenever the reigning NBA champions Dallas Mavericks finished on top, it was always because of the heroics of Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion or Jason Terry.
On Tuesday night, when Dallas overpowered the New York Knicks, as expected, it was because of the outstanding performance of Nowitzki, who finished with 28 points in the game. However, there were two other Dallas players; not highly
reputed, who played a critical part in the important win - Ian Mahinmi and Rodrigue Beaubois.
Both were highly impressive and jumped to the rescue on many instances. The best part was that both completely outclassed their respective counterparts, Tyson Chandler – ex Mav - and the Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin.
Ian finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds while Rodrigue pounded 18 points on 4 for 6 from the charity stripe in 20 minutes on the court.
"Lately I have been trying to attack more, to be aggressive to the paint," Beaubois said. "But I wouldn't say this game I tried to do it more than the others, but it was open, and when it's open I am going for sure. I think it
is because I knocked down my first two shots so that opened it even more. When I hit my first shots it is easier to drive."
It is still early days for Rodrigue at the big stage and naturally, he often commits mistakes, however, he is improving fast.
“I am a young player, so I have to learn from my mistakes and show him [Carlisle] more things to make him feel more comfortable about myself," Beaubois said about gaining Coach Rick Carlisle's trust. "Nobody likes to go out of
the game, but I mean, it is his decision”
On the other hand, Mahinmi, whose playing minutes this season have been usually less than 10 per game, was delighted with his performance as well. This performance might help him in increasing his play time. Dallas have a tough
road trip ahead and if both these players continue with more such performances, they might succeed in concreting their place in the team.
