Dallas Mavericks considering several point guard options after Deron Williams signs with Nets – NBA Update
This year`s free agency has been a huge setback for the revival plans of Dallas Maverick, who were hopeful of landing Deron Williams in order to return back to the status of genuine championship contenders.
However with William’s decision to re-sign with Brooklyn Nets for the next five years, Dallas are looking to turn their attention towards one time Maverick and a playing legend of the game, Steve Nash, and are also considering
bringing over Jeremy Lin over from New York Knicks.
Nash has also received a three year $ 36 million offer from the Toronto Raptors and with each passing day, the interest in the talismanic point guard is increasing. With Phoenix Suns, Raps, Mavs and Boston Celtics already among
the main suitors, the Los Angeles Lakers have also joined in the hunt, if the reports are to be believed.
In the case of Lin, New York Knicks have only got a mid level exception to offer and the point guard can go to any franchise which offers the highest sum.
There has also been speculation regarding the Mavericks inclinations to consider Goran Dragic of Houston Rockets, who has been reported to have a $10 million offer on the table from Phoenix Suns.
Another possible move away from the Maverick is that of Jason Terry, who has reportedly been offered a very intriguing contract by the Boston Celtics. Provided that the Mavs do not make Terry a competitive offer and he leaves,
the franchise will have to retain Delonte West, the combo guard who was a key part of their rotations last year. West is also one of the six Dallas players who have exploring free agency as of July 1st and after playing under one year contracts
for the past two seasons, he has hinted that he now wants a multi-year deal.
There also have been speculations that the Mavericks will now go full throttle to retain their veteran Jason Kidd. The point guard is also a free agent and recently there were rumours that he will follow D-Will.
With Williams in Nets now, if the Mavericks lose Kidd as well, their backcourt will become extremely fragile. At present, Rodrigue Beaubois is the only guaranteed guard present in the lineup and the Mavs will definitely have to
shop for some help very quickly. Will they be able to rope in some valuable assets remains to be seen.
