Dallas Mavericks cool off the Miami Heat - NBA Finals Roundup (Part-3)
Game 4: Dallas Mavericks 86 – Miami Heat 83
Coughing and sneezing with 101-degree fever, the All-Star Dirk Nowitzki launched another fourth quarter blitz as the Dallas Mavericks outshone Miami Heat 86-83 at the American Airlines Centre. Nowitzki struggled in the first three
quarters of the game; however he shook off his fever in the final 12 minutes and powered the Mavericks down the stretch yet again to tie the NBA Final series 2-2.
"This is the Finals. You're going to leave it out there. Like I said earlier in the series -- it's June. ... You have to go out there and compete and try your best for your team, so that's what I did." Dirk said after the game.
However, the game might well the remembered more as the one when the ‘chosen one’ – LeBron James – had one of his worst nights in an illustrious career. James was not even a shadow of himself on the night as he finished with just
eight points in the game. His struggles, especially in the fourth quarter meant that Dwyane Wade was left to fight a lone battle against the defensive system of the Mavs. Dwayne Wade pounded a game-high 32 points; however he failed to nail a three at the buzzer
that could have taken the game into overtime.
Miami dominated in the first three quarters and took a 7 point advantage in the fourth quarter. However Dirk again put on a show in the clutch and scorched the Heat with a 10-point blitz to snatch another victory from Heat.
Game 5: Dallas Mavericks 112 – Miami Heat 103
Five players from the Dallas Mavericks landed double figures to spark the team to a comprehensive 112-103 win over the reeling Miami Heat at the American Airlines Centre. Dirk Nowitzki was the top performer of the night once again
as he erupted with a game-high 29 points. He also clutched 6 boards and propelled the Mavs to a 3-2 lead in the NBA Finals.
After four below average performances, Jason ‘JET’ Terry finally stepped up to the occasion and pounded 21 points, including three scorching blows from beyond the arc. His performance in the dying moments ensured that the Mavs
nipped a late Miami surge and raced away to a unsurpassable lead in the final minutes of the game.
Nowitzki was all praise for Terry after the game. "JET was phenomenal. He was aggressive again from the get-go. ... That's the JET we need. We need him to attack and get in the lane. It opens up a lot of stuff for everybody else
out there."
After procuring three points advantage in the first half, the Mavericks continued their domination in the third quarter and strengthened the advantage to five points. The Mavs continued to haunt the Heat defence and were leading
by five, midway through the fourth. Miami though were not done yet and they scored nine straight to take a 99-95. This was the time when terry took over and beat the Heat.
